Bathroom Fan Installation

Installation of unit and electrical wiring should be done by a competent professional in observance of all applicable local codes and standards, as well as National Electrical Code (NEC), and fire-rated construction.

Electrical connections require 14 AWG or larger wire. Make sure unit is grounded.

Exercise caution with power cord, to make sure it is not damaged. Care should also be taken when cutting walls or ceiling that wires or other hidden objects are not damaged. To reduce the risk of injury, install at least 7’ above floor.

Do not block air intake or exhaust. 4” diameter ducting (not provided) should be used for discharge to outside of building. Do not install in HVAC ducting, or any recirculating ductwork. Ducted fans must be vented outdoors. Do not use ducting with greater than 90 degrees of bend.

Never place switch where it can be reached from bathtub or shower. If unit is to be installed over or in proximity to tub or shower it must be connected to a GFCI protected circuit. Do not locate directly in shower area.

Unit Placement

Bathroom ventilation unit should be on a flat ceiling. Joists should be 2”W x 4”H, Space between joists should be 16”. There should be m inimum 9” above unit to any sold obstruction. Not to be installed in ceiling where insulation is greater than R40.

  1. Remove grill fascia by pressing gently against inside spring and remove from housing
  2. Remove wire box cover from housing and install (How?) the three brackets (provided) onto housing in (designated) positions.
  3. Position housing between joists and extend sliding mounting brackets.
  4. The correct position is to have the bottom of unit flush with finished ceiling. Position and mark the studs. Mount housing between and parallel to ceiling joists using brackets provided with screws (not provided). Make sure that unit will be level with finished ceiling.
  5. Replace units into pre-marked location on the studs, place screws and tighten.
  6. Connect end of wire from wire box to power following wiring diagram. Follow all Electrical codes for wire attachments. Replace wire box cover.
  7. Attach duct tightly to fan outlet. Use 4”round ducting for emission of air to outside building. Take care to see that ducting is unobstructed, so that nothing gets into the ducting and fan.
  8. Replace grill fascia (Grill cover) after ceiling has been completed.
  9. Install bathroom fan light bulb if applicable.

Maintenance

  1. Shut off power before servicing or cleaning.
  2. Remove grill cover. Clean grill cover with soft brush, or sponge using only mild detergent and clean water.
  3. Remove light, night light. Unplug the plug-in connection. Remove the four screws that hold motor and fan housing and remove for cleaning or maintenance.
  4. Do not immerse electrical parts in water. Do not use solvents on plastic parts.
  5. Reinstall all parts.
